Domestic Partners Income Tax Question

Domestic Partners Income Tax Question

Can my boyfriend whom I live with claim me on his income taxes?

I didn't work at all last year and was totally dependent on him financially.

I am also on his medical insurance from his place of employment as his Domestic Partner.

I am an adult. I live in California, and I would like to know if your answer applies to Federal and State.

Adult Dependents in California
by: BB

In California, and for federal taxes, if you meet the criteria for a qualifying relative, your boyfriend may be able to claim you as a dependent. This includes providing more than half of your financial support and meeting other dependency tests. However, tax laws can be complex, so it's advisable to consult with a tax professional for personalized advice.

I have a sister who has been living with me for the last two years. It was suppose to be temporary, anyhow, she made under 3600.00 dollars last year and I wanted to know if I could claim her as a dependent on my taxes. I provided food, clothes, shelter etc.....

Also she did file her taxes and received a refund this year.

My Ex Has Been Living With Someone For a Year

by Crystal Field

My husband moved out and right in with her, hid her from us, never sees his kids. I'd like to know that because their household income is $90000 and mine is 9000, can we use their household income to calculate child and spousal support?

Also, Hes been working a job from 14 years and contributing to a pension that I also should receive a portion of. We were married for 19 yrs. and lived together a year befor that. I stayed home to raise our children till they were 13 and 11.

Now we are splitting the costs of te marital home until it sells 50/50 and I have paid for all the Childrens special expenses because i had a little money from a car accident settlement...he has paid now, and our separation agreement says he is responsible for at least 50%.

Right now, he owes me half of 16000$ for tuition, books etc... he is refusing to pay. Can I take him to small claims court for these???

Understanding Household Income
by: BB

Child and spousal support calculations typically consider both parents' incomes, and your husband's income may be used in the calculation. Regarding the unpaid expenses, you can consider pursuing the matter in small claims court. Consult with a family law attorney to explore legal options specific to your situation.
