Airline Taxes Income Tax Deductions

I'm following up on a question someone else asked you about deducting the TAXES on an airline ticket. You said one can deduct the whole thing, but that assumes that the trip is a business expense. I would like to know if you can deduct airline taxes on pleasure trips--also lodging taxes when not business related. Thank you.

Thank you for your follow up question regarding whether or not you can deduct airline taxes on pleasure trips.

Unfortunately, you can't take any personal airline expenses including airline taxes as an income deduction on your tax return. The same is true for lodging taxes.

You can only take business related travel income tax deductions on your tax return which would reduce any business related income that the travel pertained to.
