Form 1040X
by: Stephanie

You can amend your taxes by filing form 1040X, Amended Individual Income Tax. First fill in the return as it was filed originally and then add the changes.

File An Amendment
by: Stephanie

Hello,

Great question. It would probably be in your best interest to file an amendment once you receive the tax documentation and then you will have to repay any amount that was refunded to you in error. If you wait for the IRS to catch it, you will likely end up paying more in penalties and interest. So it is best to take care of it sooner by amending.
