MortgageInterest Deduction
Can I claim the mortgage interest deduction on my tax return when I am on title but not on the bank loan?
I receive the income and claim the expenses currently. No one else is claiming the interest deduction.
Thank you.
Hello Peter,
Thank you for your question.
If you paid the mortgage interest and are on the title but not on the loan, you CAN still claim the mortgage interest on your tax return. You typically just need to report on a different tax line called other interest. And you may need to include the tax ID name and number to whom the interest is being paid.
